The author is trying to send a lesson to the reader to the least expected person that does the job

Its a good point of view that generally everywhere there  circumstances can be right or wrong their will always be two sides to it 

In my opinion the theme of the poem"Richard Cory" riches and wealth can't buy happiness. The tone of the poem is much more like empathy toward the reader.
